    Great color – fantastic film

The colors are so true and real with a slight emphasis on the warm colors. The grain is fine and appropriate. I use this in my Nikon film SLRs (F75, F80, F100).

    A little strange

I really love portra 400, but this pack of 5 had some strange rolls. Two of them gave me really hazy colors, the rest turned out fine. Those two were developed in two different labs, but there’s always a possibility that its a mistake on their end. In any case, the rest gave me great results and I just finished shooting the last one about a month ago even though I ordered this package about a year ago (I saved them for special events). Worth buying 5!

    2 faulty rolls

I had two rolls which proved faulty. The first re rolled at 24 instead of 36The second roll was stuck and wouldnโ€™t budge no matter what. I tried manually unrolling it slightly to get it out but it was stuck right.3/5 rolls is crap

    Great Color and Results

This was my first time using Portrait 400, and I really like the results. The color is beautiful and the grain is nice. It really seems to have a special โ€œglowโ€ about it. I love it and will be buying it again in the future.

    Warm memories!

This film took everything I threw at it and made it into something beautiful. Even in low light I was surprised by its performance. Didnโ€™t use these for anything professional but they worked great for the family photos I was taking. Shot these with a $30 Canon Rebel G.

Fantastic film! The colors are really awesome

Awesome dynamic range when properly exposed. I love this film, great color and great contrast. I love going back to my original Camera and film from 30 years ago. Its a great feeling to once again enjoy old school film & photography from before the digital age. You get great skin tones and lots of detail. I like it for landscapes too, especially early morning or late evening light warm colors.

    Don’t purchase film on Amazon

I have been capturing images on film for twelve years now. Everything from 35mm to large format and even tintypes. I always store my film in the refrigerate and, at times, it even gets storage priority over leafy greens. Food or film? FILM.For a couple of years I solely explored with using expired film, trying my luck in the photographic lottery. Because of those experiments, I can clearly differentiate new film from expired film or damaged film. This film is either old or has been stored in a hot humid environment for a long period of time.I am seeing the results others have posted and my outcomes do not compare. My film is fogged and extremely grainy – even at proper exposure levels. It seems some got good results and some did not. Up to you on whether or not to risk it. I don’t recommend.

    my new favorite film!

I’ve been using fuji pro400h for a long time but I think this is my new favorite. it’s warmer, much better for skin tones and generally has a little more weirdness / vibe to it that’s hard to pin down. 400 ISO is pretty quick, and loaded in my SLR or my point-and-shoot it’s done some really cool shots.

    Favorite 35mm Film

I have only ever tried a few types of film but of the few, this is hands down my favorite. Itโ€™s very versatile indoors or out. The grain is subtle and beautiful. I love the color range. The tones tend to be warmer than other films which I also like. Excellent for portraits but also for just about anything else.

    Great Pro Film

I have been shooting Fujifilm Superia 400 X-tra as my primary color negative film. I wanted something finer grain with different colors to experiment with. This film really hold up. The contrast is amazing, true color, and fine grain for the speed. I am scanning at 6400DPI with fantastic results. I recommend everyone shoot a few rolls of this while it’s still around. Who knows how long we will be able to get Kodak film.Developing Tip: If a CVS has the processing machine, they will develop to just negatives for $2.19. You may have to convince them it exists and clearly specify that you don’t want prints.

Non responsive supplier when package is lost or taken

This product in the past has been great but I have to mention the terrible service. I legit received a package with nothing in it and I have tried to contact the seller 5 times. It’s so sad because I have used them for Porta 400 on all of my gigs and this has been the final straw for me. There is no contact and its rather expensive film if you think about it. Just sad and disappointing that I can’t leave a good review for this seller anymore. Would still like my film by the way.

Defective film. Shot two rolls that were totally blank.

I just bought a new camera and was really excited to try it out. I wanted to buy a good quality film so I went with this given the crazy good reviews it gets. I also bought a film scanner so I could upload pictures right away. After finishing the first roll of film, I go to scan it and there’s absolutely nothing. I was perplexed. Did I have it backwards, something wrong with the shutter? I troubleshooted everything and all was working properly. So I go to shoot a 2nd roll of film. Again… totally blank. Now I am furious. I literally removed the lens and pointed a flashlight directly at the film with the shutter open to see if it would have any effect. Nada. I’ve never even heard of such a thing happening. Apparently, I am not the only one who has experienced this.It takes a lot of time and effort to shoot good photos on an old vintage camera. I cannot afford for a roll to be totally blank. It’s worse than losing the money. It has to be reliable. So I will be staying away from this particular film from now on.

All three are excellent films. It is a personal choice

Have used both new Portra 160 and 400, along with Fuji Pro 400H. All three are excellent films. It is a personal choice. For my pro work Portra 400 is my go to film. Check this site you will see how good this film is:http://www.twinlenslife.com/2010/12/its-our-favorite-time-of-light-new.htmlAs for Portra 400 vs Fuji Pro 400H, it is a personal choice; both excellent films. After extensively using both my preference is Portra 400 for my industrial work.Folks, it is the Mac vs. Windows, Chevy vs. Ford thingy. Choose the film that best produces images for your eyes and for your client. As for rating I have shot at box and +1, developed as ISO 400, results are excellent. For a test I took a roll shot at different ISO up and down the range, from ISO 100 through ISO 1600. After the pro lab, Richards Photo Lab, processed the film and did prints it was difficult to see a difference, only at the extreme ends of the ISO.

Great film, but be sure you are getting what you paid for.

First of all I won’t repeat the reviews of the film performance. This is the best stuff since sliced bread. I have been through a Propack in 120 medium format and loved it.However, be SURE you are getting what the description says. I ordered three(3) packs of this stuff expecting 15 rolls to show up at my door. I watched my tracking number with baited breath and booked a job for this weekend. I even bragged to the client about how I had this great new film that looks better than anything I shot before. Imagine my disappointment to open the box and find 3 rolls loose rolling around. I have ordered from Adorama (the sub seller for this order) many times in the past and no problems up until now. I have contacted them through Amazon, but so far no response. So my fellow film friends, hopefully noone else gets the same problem, but be sure you know what product to expect. (5 rolls per Pack) seemed to be pretty clear to me…

Maybe the best color c41 film ever made

I still shoot film, and this stuff is seriously among the best ever made. Amazing latitude, you can under or over expose it a large amount and it holds up. The grain is so fine, the images look like silk when properly exposed and the colors are stupendous. If you take a camera out in tough conditions and shoot wide open, this is the film for you too. Long live film.

    Great Film

I’ve been using Portra exclusively for years, back when VC and NC existed. Although this is a hybrid of the two former models, I really like the overall result. Skin tones are great, color is balanced and you get just the right amount of contrast. Sometimes if there isn’t enough light in dark situations, the film will tend to go a bit grainy, but that’s the only negative aspect of the film.

    Unbelievable exposure latitude!

Great film, I can’t go back to anything else. Shot this on a couple vacations, the colors are great and the exposure latitude is amazing. No flash and yet every shot came out great. I even set the camera to 800 and shot a roll in a cave, sometimes underexposing another step out two, developed normally, and every shot came out!Feel free to underexpose a step or two and overexpose as much as you want and the pictures will still look good… This is why I still shoot film!

Kodak Portra Professional ISO 400 35mm 36exp color negative film

This and the Portra ISO 100 are my two favorite color films. The color is very accurate and great for (surprisingly!–not) portraiture, but it is also flexible and performs well in other usages. I have used it in both indoor studio settings as well as outdoors, and it seems to give great color both ways. The grain is very fine, even on the 400, and it is almost unnoticeable. I did not notice it at all while C-Printing on 11×14 paper, and only noticed it when I scanned it and tried to print it at 12×17 paper.Overall though, it’s a very malleable film, and worth it compared to other brands of color film currently available, which in my experience, always fall flat.

    A really great film

I have shot about 20 rolls of this stuff, so this review has been long in the making. And my final word is: Kodak Portra 400 is a really great film. It’s not too punchy, it’s not too muted, it’s very accurate reproducing colors, and has GREAT latitude. Accidentally overexposed three stops? No problem, you most likely got the shot. Set the ISO to 1600? Don’t worry about it. Don’t even push the film. It will be fine, with little extra grain. This stuff is EXCELLENT, and amazing for portraits! Use this film along with a low-light lens like an f/1.4, set it to f/2 or under, and underexpose a stop or two, and you will get DREAMY portraits.I give it 4.5 stars, because I wish it was just a little bit more punchy, but that is a very minor complaint (and I complain too much.) I’ll just mark it with 5 stars.

On time and in good condition.

My girlfriend and I have been shooting digital and film photography for the last couple of years and have yet to be let down by the quality of Kodak products. Popped a roll into a Canon ae-1 and away we went. Had a few rolls developed by an online lab, they uploaded digital negatives and the shots were stunning and vibrant. The color effect is just something so unique that is difficult to achieve in the day and age of digital sensors. Overall great experience, from purchase to prints.

5 stars because I mean, its film. This this someting you specially look for unless you’re a noob shopper just buying whatever in hopes that it does what you think it should. Great film for indoor / outdoor capability. Grain not as harsh as 800. Perfect for every occasion. Just a tad expesive. So may be going towartds Fuji next time.

Amazing film. Awesome dynamic range when properly exposed

Amazing film. Awesome dynamic range when properly exposed. Kodak certainly has a look to it and in this case its a portrait-specific look: tends to render blues as warmer/greener than they are, and to subdue greens and variations within flesh tones so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for landscapes, but then people have used it for that. It’s not as extreme as pro 400H in it’s bias as a portrait film though. Maybe halfway between. Seems reluctant to make purples as compared to Fuji film but that could just be me.

    I hate grainy images

I was hesitant to buy this film at first because it’s ISO of 400. I hate grainy images. Needless to say, I gave this film a chance. I am glad I did, because my images came out with very little grain. I strongly suggest this film to everyone, especially the photo people who hates grain being in their pictures. ๐Ÿ™‚

    great for caucasian people

These have greater latitude than Pro400H and scan cleaner as well. You can get scans that look closer to medium format that you ever could out of pro 400H. Colors can be similar, but Kodak leans a bit towards yellow skin tones, great for caucasian people. But I personally think Pro 400H looks better for Asian skin tones.

    It’s Portra

Portra is an extremely versatile and easy to use filmstock. At 400H it’s pretty tough to mess up the exposure. I recommend anybody to pick this up and start snapping, it’s really fun.

Vivid colors and wonderful fine grain film. I would use over and over.It loves light, make sure you expose properly. My favorite film along with e100 and the old Kodachrome

Ive been shooting film for almost 15 years and Portra 400 is the best film ive ever used

I always look for quality in my pictures, Ive been shooting film for almost 15 years and Portra 400 is the best film ive ever used, the colors come out crisp and clear, I use a Canon A1 and a lomography LCA to shoot film, of course I love my Canon A1 better and this film is just great, I shoot portrait and all my clients just love how the film quality looks.

    Good product

I got the product nearly 3 weeks before estimated date of arrival. The product came in excellent conditions, sealed and perfect! I haven’t checked out the photography results, since I’m still using my first roll. But so far, the product works as expected.

    Great

Really great film. Iโ€™m new to film so I think this is a really great film for someone who is a beginner like myself. It has great coloring for both landscapes and portrait photography. Isnโ€™t that great in low light but that was to be expected. Overall really happy.

Love the color and overall look.

I just recently decided to get into casual, travel photography as a hobby and picked myself up a Canonet ql17 GIII. This film came highly recommended from pretty much anyone I asked and I can see why. Just got my first roll developed and printed and it looks awesome. I love the color and overall look of this stuff. This is a blast.

    Keep making these please!

I wish Kodak would continue Portra for as long as possible. I absolutely love the skin tones, the shading, and the grain of the film. Very magical colors almost impossible with digital sensors. I have used this extensively since I went back to film. I use the portrait 400 120 as well, it’s just as good.

    Torn rolls, terrible quality

My first time using this coveted film and I was extremely disappointed. Twice!!!!! Twice my film was ruined. 2/2 rolls TORE while I tried to rewind them. The first one I thought was my fault, but after it happened again I was livid. Two potential sets of photos on my Japan trip ruined due to the poor quality of this set. Iโ€™m afraid to use anymore and have my photos lost again.I expect a refund
